Minister Dr. Cerar visits the US Congress on the first day of his visit to Washington DC
Washington, December 13, 2018 - On the first day of his visit to Washington DC, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Miro Cerar visited the United States Congress where he met with Senator Amy Klobuchar and several other members of the US Senate.
Minister Dr. Cerar congratulated Senator Klobuchar for the new six-year term she won at the November 6th elections. As the only member of the Senate of Slovene origin, he thanked her for the continued support she showed to the ancestral homeland in the capital and wider in the United States. Her assistance has always been particularly valuable in the field of cooperation of the ITF Foundation for Human Security. The Minister invited the senator to visit Slovenia again.
The Minister and the Senator exchanged views on the cooperation between the two countries, which they assessed as close and successful, both in bilateral political dialogue and trade relations. They also agreed on importance of further strengthening of the transatlantic partnership.
In addition they spoke about the upgrading Slovenian-US cooperation in the parliamentary field and in that regard in particular a possible establishment of the Slovenian Caucus in the US Congress.
During his visit to the Capitol Hill, Minister Cerar also met with several other senators, including Bob Casey (Pennsylvania), Debbie Stabenow (Michigan) and Tina Smith (Minnesota).
